Taste Of Serbia
Taste of Serbia under the leadership of Chairperson Sofia Obradovich Scalzzitti and the incredible St. Basil Taste Committee Chairpersons and members has skyrocketed in success and growth over the past few years. The Taste of Serbia has become known as one of the premiere if not the largest ethnic festivals in the Lake County/Northern IL area. Sofia begins planning for Taste of Serbia as soon as the last one is over. A Taste of Serbia is not completed and the conversation for the next year’s festival begins. Last year’s Taste had car counts at 650 plus per day. This is the biggest event of the year for St. Basil’s and one where the parish pulls together and works like a fine-tuned machine. Each year new things get added and improvements are made to add to the fun of the event. Recent additions include: day-long wrist bands for kids, the vintage tractor that all children can climb and take their picture on. Incorporating the church as part of the events has drawn more people into church. There was a steady stream each day entering to light candles, as well as, to watch the presentation highlighting Serbian culture and well-known Serbs in America. Special thanks to our section and committee chairpersons and all our donors of time, talents, food items and monetary donations.
The food has become known as the best ethnic food in the area and one of the only that features fresh never frozen whole lambs and pigs.
Special thanks to all our sponsors that support Taste of Serbia!
