Inspired by faith and driven to respond

IOCC Mission

IOCC, in the spirit of Christ's love, offers emergency relief and development programs to those in need worldwide, without discrimination, and strengthens the capacity of the Orthodox Church to respond:

IOCC VISION

We envision that, by God’s grace, IOCC will respond, without discrimination, to those who are suffering and in need, to enable them to continue to improve their own lives and communities and to have means to live with dignity, respect and hope.

IOCC COMMITMENT & CONTEXT

IOCC, an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, represents Orthodox Christians in North America and understands its work to include developing in Orthodox Christians a commitment to philanthropy and global cooperative involvement in the work of the Orthodox Church.

INSPIRATION

Matthew 25:35-36, 40

‘For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you welcomed me; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me... as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’

With the financial support of compassionate people like you, IOCC has been helping the families of Serbia since 1992. And today it includes:

  • Providing hot meals and shelter repairs for war refugees flowing into Serbia from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Africa. We're partnering with the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Red Cross of Serbia to meet the needs of this growing population.

  • Responding to the floods of 2014 with transportation and quilts for evacuees; emergency clean-up buckets and construction materials to restore hundreds of family homes, replacing roofs and heating systems, and providing replacement teaching materials for a badly damaged primary school near the town of Kladovo. Today, we’re working with the local authorities to upgrade infrastructure to ensure that families in this region stay safe.

  • Helping vulnerable communities become safer and more resilient, IOCC is working to reduce the risk of flooding in central Serbia by restoring and upgrading long-abandoned flood control infrastructure. This will protect more than 600 families in two flood-prone villages from seasonal, sometimes catastrophic flooding.

Each year, the high school students in Church School participate in the IOCC teen fundraising on Super Bowl Sunday. Students make and decorate gourmet, homemade cupcakes, which are purchased in the amounts of $2.00 each or more. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to IOCC to feed hungry children.

Also, each year, the St. Basil of Ostrog trusteeship board purchases a table for ten at the annual spring dinner and fundraiser.
